Another good Christmas...

อืม ก่อนเขียนเรื่องคริสต์มาสปีนี้อ้อมย้อนไปอ่านเรื่องคริสต์มาสปีที่แล้วที่เขียนเป็นภาษาปะกิดไว้ในบล็อกเก่า เอามาแปะให้อ่านกันตรงนี้ ถือเป็นการสรุปชีวิตในปีที่แล้วหลังจากที่ย้ายมาอเมริกาไปด้วยในตัวละกัน

it's been a while
ok, it's been so looooooooooooong since the last time i logged on to update this blog. not that i've been busy all this time. i'm just lazy, very lazy indeed.

what has happened since my birthday last year? i can say both a lot and not much.

let's recap.

Oct. '05: chris and lori came to thailand after i finished my career as an english teacher (in thailand, for now, anyway). we went to phuket with mom and dad and had a good time although i was down with a bad bad cold almost all the trip. the hotel "Evason Phuket Resort and Spa" wasn't as good as i thought it would be, though. it's too far and everything was expensive in there. and it doesn't cater thais at all. nothing is written in thai, from signs to notes in the room, not even their thai food menu. the food and the services were great, though, i have to give them that.
after the trip, it was the period of saying godbye to everyone, co-workers, students, friends, and family. tears, tears, tears, and tears!!!

i left thailand on oct. 19. it was really nice to be on the plane with chris next to me. couldn't help feeling a little sad inside, though. i was missing my family already. anyhow, we got to detroit, michigan fine. the immigration process didn't take very long. chris was in his 'long-plane-ride' mood, though. and i was also very tired. chris' parents came to pick us up at the airport and it tooks 4 hours to get home from there. we were both exhausted when we got home.

it took me a few days to unpack everything. we took over chris' dad's room. so i have a wall closet and a huge dresser just for all my stuff. and boy, are they full. i was kind enough to dedicate the tv armoire to chris. he still has stuff in the other two bedrooms in the house. haha

Nov. '05: i didn't do much at all. after i was done unpacking, then there was nothing left for me to do. thanksgiving was great, though. chris' brothers, jeff and doug, together with his family, came for a turkey feast. chris' mom, marianne, is a great cook. every dish was good. i'd already gained at least a few pounds by thanksgiving. and i'm sure i gained a few more after that meal.
the monday after thanksgiving, nov. 28, chris and i got married. yes, again...after almost two years since our wedding in bangkok. i officially became one of the three Mrs. Cathis's. the ceremony was very simple. it took 5 minutes. we had it done at the mayor's office with marianne and lori as our guests of honor.

Dec. '05: after we got married, chris and i went to peoria, illinois. chris had to be there for a job. i stayed in the motel room most of the time. we came home a few days before christmas. marianne already had the tree up and the house decorated. the presents for the boys (chris' two nephews, alex and chris) were already piling underneath the tree. chris and i bought almost all of the x'mas presents in thailand before we left, so it wasn't a big headache for both of us. everyone came on x'mas eve, with all the gifts. i couldn't believe how much stuff there was under the tree. actually, they weren't just only under the tree. they were all over the floor in the sun room where the tree was. think about it. chris and i got one or two gifts for every one in the family and everyone else did the same. there are 10 people in the family. each got about 6-7 presents. that's a LOT of presents. on x'mas day, it took us about three hours to open all the presents. i was exhausted by the time i opened my third present. each of us took turns, starting from the youngest one in the family, nephew chris, then alex, and then me!! it felt good, though, to be the third youngest. (i'm 18 years older than alex, but hey, who cares. i'm still the third!) i got a lot of stuff, all nice. chris and i didn't buy anything for each other. x'mas was also our 2nd anniversary. we decided to get a digital camera and an satellite radio for each other, but we waited for the big sales after x'mas. so we didn't celebrate our anniversary, but x'mas was great, nonetheless.

คริสต์มาสปีนี้ก็เหมือนกับปีที่แล้วคือทุกคนในครอบครัวมาฉลองกันที่บ้านพ่อแม่คริส อ้อมกับคริสเองออกจากนิวยอร์คตั้งแต่วันพฤหัส ถึงบ้านตอนบ่ายๆ พอวันศุกร์กับเสาร์ก็โดนพ่อคริสให้ออกไปซื้อของขวัญให้แมรี่แอนและหลานๆเพิ่ม เนื่องจากว่าพ่อคริสเพื่งซื้อทีวีจอแบนมาใหม่ก็เลยอยากซื้อชุดเครื่องเสียงดีๆให้แมรี่แอนได้ฟังซีดีเพลงเก่าๆ บ่ายวันศุกร์อ้อมกับคริสก็เลยต้องออกไปซื้อชุด Home Theater System ชุดยักษ์ กว่าจะได้มาก็ต้องขับไปซื้อที่อีกเมืองนึง ห่างออกไปตั้งชม.ครึ่งแน่ะ แถมกล่องใหญ่มากๆ ดีที่ยัดใส่รถกลับมาได้แบบทุลักทุเลเล็กน้อย

พอวันเสาร์พ่อคริสก็ขอให้ออกไปซื้อของให้หลานๆเพิ่มอีก ด้วยความกลัวว่าของที่ซื้อมาแล้วยังไม่พอ กับให้คริสซื้อของขวัญให้ตัวเองด้วย (แล้วเขาจ่ายตังค์คืนให้) ก็เลยออกไปซื้อเกมกับเครี่องบินจำลองให้หลานๆ คราวนี้อ้อมแอบแถมซื้อกางเกงที่ลดกระจุยที่ร้านแก็ปให้ตัวเองหนึ่งตัว หุหุ คริสก็ได้เกมกับหนังสือของตัวเอง ก่อนไปช็อปปิ้งก็แวะไปที่บ้านทิมกับมาร์ล่าเพื่อเปิดของขวัญคริสต์มาสกันล่วงหน้าก่อน อ้อมได้เสื้อกันหนาวมาหนึ่งตัวเป็น fleece เบาๆแต่อุ่นดี สไตล์ออกแบบ outdoor เล่นสกีอะไรปานนั้น ซึ่งก็ไม่ใช่แบบที่ชอบเท่าไหร่ ตอนนี้เอาไว้ใส่อยู่บ้านไปก่อน คริสก็ได้เสื้อแบบคล้ายๆกัน ส่วนของที่ให้ครอบครัวนี้ อ้อมกับคริสซื้อไว้นานแล้ว มีเสื้อเชิ้ตให้ทิม ชุดเจลอาบน้ำโลชั่นให้มาร์ล่าและรองเท้าบู๊ตให้แซมมี่ตัวแสบ

พอวันอาทิตย์ (X'mas eve)ทุกๆคนก็มาที่บ้านกัน เจฟฟ์กับแนนซี่ แฟนสาวสุดฮ็อตมาถึงก่อน หลังจากนั้นดั๊กกับครอบครัวก็มา แมรี่แอนต้องทำอาหารเช้าตลอดทั้งเช้าเลยวันนั้น พอทานกันเสร็จก็ได้เวลาเปิดของขวัญชุดสเตอริโอของแมรี่แอน เปิดกันก่อนเพราะจะได้เซ็ตอัพระบบซะก่อนวันคริสต์มาส พอบ่ายๆก็เริ่มดื่มเบียร์ รีแล็กซ์กันไป ตกเย็นก็ทานสปาเก็ตตี้มีทบอลล์ที่อ้อมเป็นคนปั้น หลานๆทั้งสองเข้านอนไปก่อน ส่วนผู้ใหญ่ก็นั่งดูหนัง Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift กับ Mission Impossible III ที่เช่ามาเพื่อทดสอบระบบโฮมเธียเตอร์ หนังห่วยทั้งคู่เลย

ตื่นมาเช้าวันคริสต์มาส หม่ำ blueberry waffle กัน พอลอรี่กับชัค(แฟน)และแม่ชัคมาก็เริ่มเปิดของขวัญ กติกาก็คือเรียงตามลำดับอายุ เด็กเปิดก่อน ตอนเปิดก็ต้องบอกให้ทุกคนรู้ว่าเป็นของขวัญจากใครเปิดแล้วก็ต้องประกาศว่าคืออะไรแล้วก็ขอบคุณตามระเบียบ คือแรกๆไอ้ระบบนี้มันก็โอเค แต่เนื่องจากของมันเยอะเหลือเกิน จะมาทำแบบนี้ทุกรอบก็ไม่ไหว พอทำไปซักสองรอบ งานนี้ก็มั่วแล้วฮ่ะ เอาของออกมากองๆกันแล้วก็เปิดๆเลย คือมันได้กันคนละหลายชิ้นมากๆ นี่ขนาดปีที่แล้วพูดกันว่าจะลดปริมาณของขวัญลงแล้วนะ ดูรูปบรรยากาศที่แนนซี่ถ่ายเป็นรูปขาวดำ ปีนี้ไม่มีหิมะไม่เป็น white christmas เลยขอใส่เอฟเฟ็คท์หิมะในสไลด์หน่อย

ปีนี้อ้อมได้รองเท้าบู๊ตหนึ่งคู่ สเวตเตอร์หนึ่งตัว ผ้าพันคอหนึ่งผืน เจลอาบน้ำสองขวด โลชั่นหนึ่งขวด(มั้ง)ถุงเท้านิ่มๆไว้ใส่อยู่บ้านสองคู่ ชุดบำรุงเท้าและเล็บของ Burt's Bees ผ้าลูกไม้รองโต๊ะ ชุดช้อนส้อม แล้วก็บัตรของขวัญร้าน T.J. Max อาจจะมีอย่างอื่นอีกแต่จำไม่ได้แล้ว พ่อคริสแจกตังค์ด้วย อารมณ์เหมือนแต๊ะเอียเลย ของให้คริสปีนี้อ้อมทำเซอร์ไพรส์เล็กน้อย สั่งซีดี U2 มาสามแผ่นทางอินเตอร์เน็ต (คือมันไม่ได้มีโอกาสไปไหนเองโดยที่คริสไม่อยู่ด้วย) ของที่คริสให้อ้อมก็คือกระเป๋าโค้ชที่ซื้อที่ออร์แลนโด้ ซึ่งคริสให้เอาออกมาโชว์ด้วย แนนซี่กับคาซุมิก็กรี๊ดกันไปตามประสาสาวๆ ฮ่าๆ

อ้อ จริงๆแล้ววันนั้นคือวันครบรอบแต่งงานปีที่สามของอ้อมกับคริสด้วย อ้อมก็แอบเซอร์ไพรส์ให้การ์ดคริสไปสองใบ ไม่มีอะไรมาก เซ็งเหมือนกัน มันตรงกับเทศกาลก็เลยไม่ได้ฉลองกันสองคน แต่ก็ไม่เป็นไร

พอแกะของขวัญกันเสร็จก็พักผ่อนกัน บ่ายแก่ๆก็ทานข้าวเย็นเป็นอาหารเทศกาลทั้งหลาย มีแฮม, cheesy potatoes, baked green beans, ambrosia, cranberry sauce หลังจากนั้นทุกคนก็ทยอยกันกลับบ้าน

ก็ผ่านไปอีกปีสำหรับคริสต์มาส แป๊บๆก็ฉลองคริสต์มาสที่นี่กับครอบครัวคริสไปสองรอบแล้ว(ไม่นับสองปีก่อนแต่งงาน) ปิดท้ายด้วยรูปหมู่
